TLU’s Brown Cultural Series Returns for Its 2025-2026 Season: Harvey Guillén to Speak September 25

Harvey Guillén is a man of many faces—and voices. You’ve likely seen him as Guillermo de la Cruz in the television series What We Do in the Shadows. Or you might know him as Benedict Fenwick in The Magicians or Cousin Blobbin in The Thundermans. You’ve probably heard him as the voice of the loveable Perrito in the Academy Award nominated Puss in Boots or Funny the Magic House in Mickey Mouse Funhouse.

To say that Guillén is versatile would be an understatement. For his work in What We Do in the Shadows alone, he earned five Critics Choice Award nominations and made history by becoming the first queer Latinx actor to be nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category. He also won two Imagen Awards.

And on Thursday, September 25, Harvey Guillén will take the stage at ÎçÒ¹É̵ê’s Jackson Auditorium. Guillén appears as the first installment in this year’s Brown Cultural Event Series, and his lecture will be on the topic of finding confidence, balancing work and life, queer representation, and breaking stereotypes as a plus-sized actor in Hollywood. His speech will be followed by a meet-and-greet in the lobby.

The event, sponsored by the Jessie S. and Jack Harold Upton Brown Cultural Enrichment Endowment Fund, begins at 7 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium and is free and open to the public.
