Part-Time Chemistry Lab Technician

 (Up to 3-year funded position)

ÎçÒ¹É̵ê invites applications for a part-time Laboratory Technician in Chemistry.  The position supports chemistry faculty set up and tear down the labs for general chemistry, principles of chemistry, and organic labs along with management of the chemical stockrooms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Chemistry faculty with preparation, setup and tear-down of Chemistry teaching laboratories. Tasks will include:
    • Preparation of solutions
    • Organization of glassware and equipment
    • Proper handling of chemical waste when completed
    • Help maintain a safe and clean environment for learning.
    • communicating maintenance needs to faculty or division chair
  • Overseeing and keeping up-to-date inventory and organization of chemical stockroom and associated supplies
  • Working as a team player, supporting and assisting faculty, staff, and students.
  • Identifying and participating in resolution of departmental/institutional problems with continuous quality improvement as a goal.
  • Demonstrating reliability and a dependable work ethic.
  • Working to make faculty, staff, students, visitors, and external constituents feel welcome and respected as individuals, treating them with courtesy and dignity.
  • Exhibiting appropriate behavior in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrating effective and respectful communication.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications: 

  • B.S./B.A. in Chemistry or related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • Experience may include previous positions that included similar work responsibilities, including military service, industrial/mechanical/machinist positions, or similar academic-focused positions at the K-12 or university level.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Knowledge of basic chemical and lab safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to manage inventories and laboratory equipment/supplies for chemistry laboratories.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and students
  • Ability to practice appropriate waste disposal methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to multitask and work with frequent interruptions.
  • General familiarity with computers, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office products and the willingness to learn other software as needed for lab inventory management and maintenance records.
