Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician and Building Manager for Natural Sciences
ÎçÒ¹É̵ê is currently seeking to hire a full-time Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician and Building Manager for Natural Sciences. This is a 3-year grant-funded position. This position is primarily responsible for the maintenance tasks in the Science Buildings, including but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general maintenance items. This position also supports the science faculty with operating the building machine shop, and with the upkeep of instrumentation and equipment for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Responsibilities include:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform all types of maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, locking system, and HVAC. Work will primarily be in the campus Science buildings but could also include other campus buildings at times.
- Assisting faculty in the natural sciences as needed to maintain lab equipment and instrumentation. Tasks will include:
- keeping up-to-date maintenance records
- communicating maintenance needs to department chair(s)
- keeping up-to-date inventory of equipment/instrumentation and associated supplies
- performing light maintenance on a variety of instrumentation and equipment and assisting in coordinating professional (external) maintenance calls (as needed)
- communicating equipment, instrumentation, and supplies needs to department chair(s).
- Assisting Physics faculty with preparation and setup for physics teaching laboratories.
- Assisting faculty and students with use of the machine shop – (makerspace).

Position Qualifications include:
- 5 years’ relevant experience may include previous positions that included similar work responsibilities, including military service, industrial/mechanical/machinist positions, or similar academic-focused positions at the K-12 or university level.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent organization skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Ability to work with test equipment and power tools
- Good mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting ability
- Must have a valid Texas drivers’ license
- Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language
- Considerable judgment and resourcefulness are needed
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively with faculty; staff and students
- Ability to practice appropriate safety protocols and waste disposal methods;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
- Experience with electronics troubleshooting and repair and standard machine shop instrumentation
- Willingness to research and learn new skills required for maintenance and small repairs;
- General familiarity with computers, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office products and the willingness to learn other software as needed for lab inventory management and maintenance records;
- Understanding and support of the mission and strategic plan of ÎçÒ¹É̵ê
Physical Demands
This position requires working with instrumentation and equipment and includes physical demands associated with light maintenance, inspection, and repair, including manual dexterity, walking, and lifting/moving instruments/equipment. Some typical office work may require sitting for short times for record keeping and communication.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily indoors in a three-story, three-building complex, in scientific lab and classroom spaces but at times may be in unfavorable conditions.
Organizational Data
This is a non-exempt position. This position does not supervise other staff.
